    Description

Vintage Shakespeare "Howald" Wonderod Fly Fishing Rod NO. 1390-GBX 8'6"
This is a 3 piece vintage Shakespeare Wonderod fly fishing rod. Rod is 8'6" in length and will handle a 5-6 weight fly line. Rod weighs 4 3/4oz and dates in manufacturer to 1949. 3 3/4" green anodized aluminum ultra light ring locking skeleton reel seat. Extra select specie cork 6 3/4" cigar shaped grip with green aluminum winding check style hookeeper. Rod has a stainless steel frame carbide ring stripper guide, (9) chrome plated stainless steel snake guides, and a chrome plated rust proof tip top. Ferrules are serrated nickel silver finished in black. Blade is white and fully cored with the balsa wood mandrel still intact. Guide winds are red painted glass with black painted accents. Shakespeare logo is "green halo" Howald series". Rod comes with original blue cloth Shakespeare rod bag and ribbed aircraft aluminum storage tube with correctly marked screw cap. Specie cork has been cleaned and reconditioned. The ferrule fit early on apparently was an issue and man handling to dis-engage has caused a number of non-serious surface striations. As result, I have over-wrapped the affected sections after sealing them with size A white nylon to assure maintained rod integrity and cosmetic look. There are two sections on the butt emanating from the stripper guide and one small section (middle) emanating from the male ferrule. Rod is finished in Vintage Gudebrod Glass Rod Varnish.
