VINTAGE NUMBERED SOUVENIR TOKEN - MONTREAL CANADA NEWSPAPER LA PATRIE, JOAN ARC

Description

This item is an early 1900s token (or medal) that served as a souvenir of the La Patrie newspaper in Montreal, Canada, and it also is a contest item, having a stamped number.  One side has an image representing Joan of Arc, with the date 1429 (the year that she led the liberation the French city of Orleans) on a banner and the words
JEANNE D'ARC
and
SOUVENIR - LA PATRIE - MONTREAL
along the rim.  The other side has a very detailed three-dimensional image of the building housing the newspaper, with the stamped number (44078) beneath it and the words
LISEZ LA PATRIE CE NUMERO Y SERA PUBLIE
(translated: The winning number will be published) along the upper rim.  The name of the manufacturer (Caron Freres, Montreal) is found along the lower rim of this side.
This medal was struck very well, with bold detailed image and lettering.
This item measures approximately 31 mm (nearly 1-1/4") in diameter, and it is composed of either bronze or copper.
This item is in very fine condition with excellent detail in the design, with very light actual wear, limited signs of handling, toning, and limited soiling, and it is fairly bright.
