Varmint XL-1000 Quad Power Bi Linear Amplifier.
This amplifier is in almost new condition. I received this from the original owner. He stated that it was only used a handful of times. And i believe that by the shape its in. Just look at how nice the transformers are! The inside is nice and clean.
I had to drill out 4 pop rivets to remove the bottom cover to check the electrolytic capacitors. (replaced rivets with new screws and j-clips). All caps check out fine with no leakage and was powered up slowly with the use of a variac. Oiled the fan motor. The fan had no dust on it. So no cleaning was needed.
It has all sylvania tubes in it that all test out fine.
3 6kv6a tubes driving 6 6lr6 tubes.
With 20 to 25 watts peak into it. This amplifier will put out 1200-1300 watts peak on a bird 43.
900 average bird watts.
On high with a 8 watt carrier the amp will key 900 just to show how strong the tubes are. However i would recommend that its ran with around 250-300 dead key and let it swing!
Testing was done using a stock power President Lincoln.
You may see more output with a galaxy or something that really swings good on am. But do not used a high powered radio into this amp!
Low drive only ! Id suggest no more then 30 watts peak input with a 2 to 3 watt carrier at most.
Ive been using this for the last week with very good results. Seems to work best on the super mod position. Keying 275 and modulating to 1200-1300 on the peaks.
