MAKER: Meissen circa 1817-1824
PIECE NAME: Sugar Bowl / Dresser Jar / Powder Box
DIMENSIONS: 4 5/8" across mouth; 4 3/4" tall with lid; 2 1/2" without.
DETAILS: Piece has Meissen's underglaze blue crossed swords with an "I" underneath (The "I" below the crossed swords was used for a short period 1817-1824 to indicate the quality of the porcelain) and a diamond cut through the crossed swords mark indicating that it was sold as a white blank and was painted and gilded with overglaze decoration somewhere other than the Meissen Factory.  In this case the quality of the painting appears to be excellent but there is no mark or signature to indicate who the painter was.  This piece also has a museum catalog number painted on the base and the inside of the lid and was apparently a deaccession piece.
CONDITION:  Decoration is in excellent condition but the base has a crack running through half the piece (about 90 degrees to the left of the painted scene) running from one side all the way down through to the middle of the piece (visible in photos 6 & 7).  Wear to the gilding.  Piece still looks great and the beautiful artistry of the painted scene is intact.
