M A Hadley 5.5” Cereal Soup Bowl Lot COUNTRY American Pottery VINTAGE. Condition is "Used". Shipped with USPS Priority Mail.
I can’t tell you how many bowls of Apple Jacks cereal or Campbell’s tomato soup my family has eaten from these bowls. My mother was married in 1964 and received Hadley as her wedding dishes. We have grown up eating from them. Anyone who knows my mother well would instantly think of her Hadley dishes. I think, of all the pieces she has, the bowls and the mugs hold the sweetest memories for me. They represent comfort and home….a hot bowl of soup on a bitter cold night or cereal on a Saturday morning watching cartoons. These bowls have withstood family life and big moves for more than 56 years. They have held up better than I have. These measure 5.5” in diameter. They are as shown and in excellent, well-loved condition, however, two of them are a little worse for the wear (the ship and the whale). I have provided closeup photos of both. I believe the whale bowl has always been like this - it is quite possibly a second my mother picked up at the pottery in Louisville. With my magnifier, it looks as though there was a crease or weak spot in the rim of the bowl before firing and the glaze has eroded away over that crease. The damage on the rim of the ship bowl is, as far as I can tell, glaze flaking. The white part on the interior and exterior does show, on some, those spidery dark lines that seems to be indicative of Hadley - but it’s under the glaze (this is mostly prominent on the ship bowl, but also present on the whale and one of the chicken bowls). There might be a few, random, pinprick glaze pops here and there…but they have been there since firing and never posed an issue. These will be hard to let go but will make an excellent addition to your collection and hopefully hold as many memories for you as they have bowls of soup and cereal for us.
