A complete set of 12 Antique Meissen Quatrefoil Handpainted Plates. Featuring quatrefoil decoration style - panels depicting courting couples and floral sprays (all different). Adorned with gilt filigree and gilded rims.
The plates come in 6 colors (two plates of each) - teal, black, yellow, burgundy, blue and rose/pink
This beautiful set is in great condition overall. Minor wear to gilt and decorations, some wear marks and tiny scabs on feet, minor rough areas along the rims - all in accordance to the age. One plate (burgundy) has tiny hairline, not noticeable at all. Please see the last picture.
Each plate is marked with the underglaze Meissen mark. However please note that there are some damage on the marks. I don’t know what this means. I doubt it relates to quality because second quality marks are not any worse than rubbing off on the marks. It appears there was some blue ink applied (you can see on some plates) and someone was attending to remove it. I don’t have explanation for this. A prominent antique dealer mentioned that this could have been related to ideological reasons post war. Meissen mark itself is legitimate. Examples of marks pictured.
This set appear to have been in a family for a while, likely heirloom piece. I purchased it at a prominent estate in Richmond. I had it in my personal collection and wanted to sell it as a set, the way it has been.
