Description
For sale isThis is a very rare egg cup made by Meissen during the 18th century during the Marcolini period. I think it is one ended but could also be double ended though the one side is not decorated for it. A double-ended one meant an egg could be eaten upright, as in England, or lying horizontally, popular in Germany and central Europe in the 18th century. So this model if it is one ended would definitely have been made for the local market. It is hand painted with strewn flowers all around the outside, some nice gold trim as well as a polychrome floral arrangement to the top inside as shown. A very rare shape to find! The eggcup is in superb condition! About as nice as anyone can hope for! The piece is 2.25 inches tall, 2.375 inches wide and 1.75 inches deep. The base has a diameter of 1.75 inches. It is marked underneath with the blue crossed swords mark with a star underneath as well as a blue 4. and another blue dot. Please email me for more information or other pictures.
