Description
For sale isan early serving platter made by Meissen in about 1750. It has a nice oval shape with a basket weave relief rim design and has two large floral arrangements and lots of scattered smaller flowers hand painted on it. Gold trim to the edge. The flowers are still influenced by the woodcut style but not quite yet the Deutsche Blumen style so that dates the piece around 1740 to about 1750. My favorite flower of all time and one that was really only used early on is the Lily of the Valley to the right side. The dish is marked with the straight blue crossed swords underneath between two ground down firing supports. The piece is in superb condition with almost no wear except to the gold trim. There are some firing flaws like a small firing crack and the piece not being perfectly flat but that is normal on these pieces and all part of the charm! The platter is 1.75 inches tall, 14.5 inches wide and 12.125 inches deep. 18th century 18thC German Germany
