Description
For sale isa rare early saucer made by Meissen in about 1735. It is hand painted with the very old blue when Meissen still had issues with the color and the paste has a relief design to it. The old blue had an odd sheen to it when held at the right angle to the light which I tried to show in a picture. The pattern is called the straw flower design and it was very popular back in the day and still is to this day. The saucer is in perfect condition with a tiny bit of wear to the clear glaze in two small spots from stacking which can only be seen when held at the right angle. A small glazed over chip to the foot ring as well as some stray blue to the underside. Marked with the straight blue crossed swords underneath with a dot between the bottom ends (I know this is known for the 1765 period but it was also used early once in a while). There is also another blue mark that almost touches the swords which is probably a painters mark and an impressed number 62. The saucer is 1.125 inches tall and has a diameter of 4.75 inches. 18th century German Germany antique Unterteller Strohblume blue & white
